Consent
What teens and parents can count on
A teen speaks more freely when they know the rules. So do parents.
For your teen
What you say stays with Edna, within the limits of the law. She tells you in plain words, at the start, what she will pass to your parents and what she will not.
For you, the parent
You sign the consent, you know the fee and you hear about any safety concern. You do not get a session-by-session report.
How consent works
Who signs
A parent or legal guardian signs the consent before a teen's first session. Tennessee law has its own rules for older teens, and Edna explains how they apply to your family in the parent conversation.
What parents hear
General themes you agree on in writing, and anything that touches safety. Edna does not repeat what a teen says in confidence.
The limits
If someone is at serious risk of harm, or abuse of a child is suspected, Edna may have to tell others. She explains this in writing before you start.
Parents who live apart
Tell Edna early if there is a custody order or a disagreement about therapy. She will explain what she needs from each parent.
