Farragut, Tennessee

For the parent of a teen, and for the teen

Glade is a counseling practice in Farragut, west of Knoxville, for families with teens aged 13 to 17. Teens meet with Edna in therapy of their own. Parents meet with her separately, in sessions made for them.

Two services, kept apart

Teen therapy and parent coaching are not the same hour

Your teen's sessions are theirs. Yours are yours. Here is how they differ, and where family sessions fit.

Teen therapy

  • Who comes

Your teen, aged 13 to 17, on their own.

  • What it is for

A private place to talk, learn skills and be heard.

  • What stays private

What your teen says stays with Edna, within the limits of the law. She agrees with you in writing what she will share.

  • How it is paid

Its own fee, given in writing before the first session.

Parent coaching

  • Who comes

You, or both parents, without your teen.

  • What it is for

A working session for you: how to answer at home, hold limits and repair after a hard night.

  • What stays private

What you share about your own life and home is yours. She does not pass it to your teen.

  • How it is paid

Its own fee, billed apart from your teen's sessions.

Family sessions

  • Who comes

Your teen and the adults at home, together.

  • What it is for

Planned conversations about one thing the family needs to settle.

  • What stays private

Everyone in the room hears the same thing.

  • How it is paid

Its own fee, given in writing, for a longer block.

Services

Three ways to work together

Most families begin with one and add another when it helps.

    Teen therapy

One-on-one sessions for teens aged 13 to 17: skills for stress, school and big feelings, in a room that is theirs.

    Parent coaching

Sessions for you alone, kept apart from your teen's therapy: how to answer at home, hold limits and repair after a hard night.

How it starts

Four steps before your teen sits down

  • 01

    You write or call

Tell us your teen's age and the times that work. Please leave medical details out of the message.

  • 02

A conversation with the parent first

Edna talks with you, without your teen, about what is happening at home and how consent works. It is a 50-minute session, and its fee is in writing first.

  • 03

    Forms and a written fee

You sign the consent. If you pay without insurance, we send a Good Faith Estimate before anything is billed.

  • 04

    Your teen's first session

Your teen meets Edna, who explains privacy in plain words and listens. Parent coaching starts when you choose.

Two tracks, one plan at home

Teens and parents are seen apart

Your teen's therapy and your coaching are separate services with separate hours, so each of you can speak freely. Family sessions bring everyone together when there is one thing to settle.

What gets shared

Before the first session Edna sets out in writing what she will tell parents and what she will keep with your teen. Safety concerns are never kept back.

Methods

Teen sessions draw on cognitive behavioral therapy skills and family systems therapy. Parent coaching draws on parent management training. Edna explains each in your first session, with the possible risks and benefits.

What this is not

Glade does not prescribe medication, write school or court evaluations, or act as an emergency service. If your teen is in crisis, call or text 988.

How fees work

The answers to what nearly every parent asks before a first session.

  • Insurance we work with

Glade is out of network with insurance plans, so you pay for each session yourself. We do not take Medicare or TennCare, and parent coaching is not billed to insurance. If you want someone who bills your plan, we will gladly share the names of colleagues.

    • Out of network with insurance plans

    • No Medicare or TennCare

  • If you pay yourself

You pay at the end of each session by card, including HSA and FSA cards. Each kind of session has its own fee: a teen session, a parent coaching session and a family session. The fee depends on the kind of session and its length, and we give it to you in writing before you start. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open; ask how to request one. We ask for 24 hours' notice to change a session.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

Each month we can give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) for your teen's sessions, with the dates and kind of session, to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of out-of-network care. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see. Your plan decides whether it pays anything; ask it before you start.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one before your teen's first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

We do not check benefits, because we do not bill your plan. If you want to know whether your plan reimburses out-of-network mental health care, call it before the first session and ask.

Questions

What nearly every parent asks

Do you take my insurance?

Glade does not bill insurance plans. You pay for each session, and each month we can give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of the cost; your plan decides. We do not take Medicare or TennCare. Parent coaching is not billed to insurance.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

What happens in the first session?

Edna starts with a parent conversation, without your teen, about what is happening at home and how consent works. Your teen then has a first session of their own, in which she explains privacy in plain words and listens. Each lasts about 50 minutes.

Can you see my teen, and how does consent work?

Yes, for teens aged 13 to 17. A parent or legal guardian signs the consent before the first session. Tennessee law has its own rules for older teens, and Edna explains how they apply to your family in the parent conversation.

Are you licensed where I live?

Edna's license is from Tennessee. By video she sees teens and parents who are in Tennessee during the session. If you are elsewhere, we will help you find someone licensed there.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock.
